Barna, Guzy & Steffen, Ltd., a 30+ attorney law firm located in the North Metro, is looking for a hardworking and dedicated summer Law Clerk to join our Litigation department. The successful candidate with have tremendous opportunities for significant responsibilities involving research, trial preparation, analysis and writing. Additional opportunities may include attending arbitration hearings and depositions as well as attending court hearings. Must be 2L.

Elder Law & Probate Legal Assistant
Barna, Guzy and Steffen, Ltd. is now hiring a full-time Elder Law & Probate Legal Assistant with 2+ years of experience. Experience in the areas of Estate Planning, Probate, Guardianship/Conservatorship, Special Needs, and/or Elder Law preferred. This position is intended to support at least two attorneys.
Responsibilities
- Case Management & Workflow Oversight: Manage and prioritize the workflow of legal cases, ensuring that all deadlines are met and cases progress smoothly. You will be responsible for keeping cases organized and moving forward in a timely manner while maintaining confidentiality.
- Anticipate Attorney's Needs: Proactively assess the requirements of each case type and anticipate the attorney’s needs by preparing necessary documents, filings, and communications in advance. Recognize the complexity of different case types (e.g., estate planning, guardianship, Medicaid, long-term care planning) and adjust workflow accordingly.
- Client Interaction & Coordination: Communicate directly with clients, schedule appointments, and relay critical information. You will be responsible for gathering client documents, maintaining client records, and ensuring all details are accurate and updated.
- Document Preparation & Filing: Draft, proofread, and finalize legal documents such as wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and other elder law-related forms. Ensure filings are completed in compliance with relevant regulations and deadlines. Experience with e-filing with Minnesota district courts preferred.
- Time Management & Prioritization: Prioritize tasks based on urgency and case complexity, balancing multiple cases efficiently. Ensure attorneys have the necessary materials and support to focus on high-priority matters.
- General Administrative Support: Maintain organized physical and electronic files, calendars, and reminders for attorneys, ensuring that all documents and tasks are up to date. Support attorneys in preparing for meetings, hearings, and client consultations. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, iManage (document management), and Prolaw (case management) preferred.
- Client Care & Compassionate Support: Provide exceptional service to our clients with patience, empathy, and understanding. Recognize the unique needs and sensitivities of individuals, ensuring a supportive and respectful environment throughout their legal processes. Maintain a calm and patient demeanor when working with clients who may require extra time or assistance in understanding complex legal matters.

Pay: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
